A private organization, 4 ward Development operating in the upper west and Savannah regions of Ghana has donated a cash amount of Ghc 10,000 to the St. Joseph's health center at Kalba in the Sawla - Tuna - Kalba District of the Savannah region.
The donation which was done on Thursday, 7th April, 2022 came after the health facility was hit by a severe wind which ripped off the roof of the health center on March 20, 2022, placing the health of over 40,000 community residents in jeopardy.
The regional director of 4ward Development in charge of the Upper West and Savannah regions, Mr. Ahmed A. Yakini said their organization is mostly into water projects in the Wa West, Wa East, Wa Municipal, and Sawla - Tuna - Kalba districts, adding that after receiving news of the desaster from MP for the area, the company couldn't back down though it is not into health.
Mr Yakini stated that providing clean water to community members without good health is pointless, therefore the necessity for this donation to help the institution get back in shape so that it can continue to provide decent health care to the over 40,000 residents.
He reiterated that the major priority at the community level is primary healthcare and good water, saying “we have so much interest in the health of the people, the last place you expert to be out of functioning in a community is a clinic”.
Mr Ahemed Yakini expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the employees for their benevolent efforts in discharging their service amid these trying times when he arrived at the institution and noticed the health workers sitting under trees attending to clients.
As a result, he urged other organizations and individuals to assist the institution in order to save the lives of thousands of people who are in danger. "We recognized that we didn't have much because we are a small institution and a private organization, we can't afford to put the place in good form".
He added that they hope they could fully support the institution in order for it to get back on its feet and encourages health personnel to keep doing all they can to help the community members.
Fr. Sylvester Kuubetersuur, the Diocesan Development Coordinator, who received the donation on behalf of the St Joseph health facility, expressed gratitude to the 4ward Development Company, and requested additional financial and in-kind contributions from others to enhance the speedy rehabilitation of the facility.
The Chief Physician, George Sobiitey, the In Charge of the St. Joseph health center, lamented that nothing has been done to get the facility back on track since the terrible incident three weeks ago saying "The crew is discouraged, according to Mr. George Sobiiteey, because nothing has been done to get the facility back to good shape" and raised concerns on how some clients attend to themselves in their homes and then come to the institution when they become ill. These, according to Mr. George, are the outcome of the facility's breakdown.
He also commended 4ward Development for listening to the community's concerns as well as the personnel at St. Joseph Health Clinic. He urged more charitable groups, non-governmental organizations, and other benefactors to help them.
4ward Development is a small water company. It is not an NGO but a private company operating in communities that is into building water infrastructures, managing and making sure that communities have sustainable and safe drinking water.
St Joseph health center was built in 1980 and started operation in the year 1981 by the Catholic Church.
