Be Ambassadors of Road Safety - Savannah Regional Coordinating Director, Mr. Yaw Adu-Asamoah

The Savannah regional coordinating Director, Mr. Yaw Adu-Asamoah has called on security personnel and the general public in the savannah region to install discipline while using the road and be ambassadors in the road safety campaign and fight against indiscipline on our roads by road users.


Mr. Yaw Adu Asamoah made the call in an address after a health walk organized by the National Road Safety Authority, MTTD unit of the Ghana Police Service and the Savannah regional coordinating council where participants including security services, heads of departments, the Christian Council, Civil society organizations and the general public converged for a health walk through the principal streets of Damongo on Saturday, 9th April, 2022.

The Regional Coordinating Director in a short address explained that,  the lessons in road safety has it that, the safety of the people is what matters and not the destination to which one is travelling to and how fast you get there hence, the need to take some precautions when using the road.


Mr. Yaw Adu-Asamoah expressed gratitude to the participants who took part in the health and road safety campaign walk and urged the security services and the general public to join forces together with the National Road Safety Authority to achieve success just as how they handled covid-19 with their energies, resources and enthusiasm.

The regional planning manager of the National Road Safety Authority, Mr. Eric Fodjour on behalf of the Director General of the National Road Safety Authority explained that, the essence of the walk was to sensitize the general public on the need to adhere to road safety precautions when using the road especially during festive seasons. 

He commended the Savannah region for the collaboration exhibited in the organization of the walk adding that, " for the whole of Ghana, this is the first time the security services is collaborating with the general public to fight the war against indiscipline on our roads".

Mr. Fodjour said, he was happy with the massive turnout and thanked the participants for not leaving the fight for only the road safety authority and reiterated that, issues of road safety is a shared and a collective responsibility of all in the region and a win for all when the fight is successfully conquered.

He cautioned motorcycle riders and drivers in the region to always wear helmets and seat belts when using the road.

The regional planning manager however disclosed that in the year 2021, the number of deaths recorded at the first quarter as a result of road accidents was 44 but has reduced to 24 at the first quarter of 2022 which shows that if all shoulders are put together in the fight against indiscipline on our roads, the Crush statistics will reduce drastically.
