Minister for Lands and Natural Resources commissions two Resettler communities in Upper East Region

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for the Damongo constituency, Hon. Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor has on the 5th of August, 2022, behalf of the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, commissioned two new resettler communities in the upper East Region.

The two new resettler communitie namely, Biung and Accra are both in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. 

The new communities according to the Minster, are to resettle members of the Biung and Accra communities, to pave way for mining operations to commence in the area by Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd. 

He explained that, the activities of Cardinal Namdini mining Ltd is under the mining laws of the country and the responsibility of the Minister responsible for Lands and Natural Resources to ensure that persons to be affected by mining operations are  resettled on a suitable alternate land, paying particular attention to the well-being and social and cultural values of the people.

He further explained that, his Ministry has worked closely with Cardinal to put up these new communities, which have residential buildings fitted with kitchen and washrooms, a health facility, two schools with accommodation for teachers, three places of worship, electricity and potable water connected throughout the communities. 

Hon. Abu Jinapor reiterated Government’s committment, not to repeat the mistakes of the past, but to negotiate and exploit the natural resources of the country for the benefit of the good people of the country and the host communities.

He added that, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources will continue to work with all stakeholders, particularly mining companies and mining communities, to ensure that these resources are exploited for the benefit of the people of Ghana, the true owners of these minerals.
