world vision's end child marriage soccer clinic climaxed at Damongo

A soccer clinic organised by world vision Ghana for young girls from seven basic schools in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region aimed at ending child marriage, violence and abuses against children climaxed at Damongo.

In Addressing the participants, the cluster programmes manager, Mr. Felix Apeti on behalf of the senior management team of world vision Ghana expressed gratitude to the stakeholders for joining hands with world vision in working towards the fight against early child marriage and explained that the essence of the soccer clinic is for them to engage and team up with the girls and the stakeholders as players to fight against the menace in their communities, schools and homes.

He appealed to the stakeholders to play a role in the fight against all forms of violence and abuses against girls and boys in their communities.

Madam Barbara Asare Yaboah, the child protection and advocacy coordinator at world vision who led the advocacy and campaign on “end child marriage now”, called on the school girls in the West Gonja municipality to discipline themselves in order to attain higher heights in their educational lather.

She explained that , the advocacy on ending child marriage, violence and abuses against women should be embraced by all to help build a better future for the girls and the nation.

The girls soccer clinic was under the theme “Ending child violence and promoting holistic transformation of children through soccer clinic” and was participated by seven schools including; Jakpa JHS, Kurabaso JHS, Larabanga JHS, Canteen JHS, Jonokponto JHS, Damongo model girl JHS and Yipala JHS and  climaxed with a final game between Jakpa JHS and Larabanga JHS  with Jakpa JHS girls winning the ultimate trophy through penalty shootouts after the game ended goalless.

Each of the girl who participated in the games from the seven schools received sanitary pads and educational materials with the winning teams bagging home deserving trophies among others.

The seven schools that participated in the games also received sanitation materials including ; dust bins, wheels barrows among others.
