The incumbent Savannah Regional Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana ( prof Kalamonia ) has been re-elected to maintain his position as chairman of the NPP party in the Savannah region.
He pulled 112 votes of the total votes of 172 to beat his opponent, Abass Azumah who pulled 60 in the just ended regional executives elections held on Friday, 27th May, 2022 at the regional capital, Damongo.
21 Aspirants filed their nominations vying for various positions in the party.
The Regional Chairman,1st vice chairman, Women’s Organizer, Assistant secretary and the youth Organizer maintained their positions with the rest loosing their positions to new candidates.
In an interview with this source, the member of parliament for Damongo and Minister for lands and Natural resources, Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor admonished delegates and members of the NPP party in the region to ensure that the organize a peaceful elections as it is an internal affair of people with a common mission and purpose of working towards making history by breaking the 8 chain governance come 2024.
Mr. Jinapor added that, the savannah region is an infant one and the NPP party in the region is quite fragile politically and did not win the three NPP parliamentary seats comfortably and in some cases, did not win the presidential.
He explained that, the savannah region is the home region of former president mahama and one of the factors that is putting the NPP in a huge disadvantage which calls for the entire membership of the NPP in the region to close their differences and remain united in other to work vigorously towards protecting the party's interest by winning more seats than they did in 2020 and increase the popular votes in the savannah region.
The elections was supervised by the national elections committee chairman, Mr. Omari Wadie who subsequently sworn in to office the newly elected regional executives of the party.
