The DCE for the Bole District, Madam Veronica Alele has joined the people of Sonyo, a community in the Bole District to celebrate this year's Deng Festival.
The DCE who hails from the Sonyo land paternally joined her people in the celebrations on day - two of the Festival on Wednesday, 25th May, 2022.
In an interview with padfm's reporter kumatey Gorden, Madam Veronica Alele explained how she cherishes and adores the culture of her people particularly, the Deng Festival which she said is very unique to the people and brings together son's and daughters of the land together and can also be served as a tourist site for the rest of the world to visit during the period.
She explained that the development of the area is key to her as an indigene of sonyor and DCE for the area and that, a CHIPS compound has been build in the area to ensuring that quality health care is delivered to the people of sonyor.
She admitted to the deplorable state of the road network of the area but revealed that the road has been awarded to a contractor who is currently waiting to receive his mobilisation to move to site.
Hon. Veronica also disclosed that, plans are far advanced to construct of a market complex and the erection of a tower to help boost the telecommunications network problems of the area.
The Deng festival is a cultural festival celebrated by the Gonja people in and around Bole and a thanksgiving festival which is celebrated to pay homage to the Sonyor "Kupo" shrine at Sonyor in the Bole/Bamboi district of the Savannah region.
During the celebration of the deng festival, the people of sonyor or Gonja worshippers of the sonyor "kupo" usually will present a live bush animal to purify the shrine in order to remove evil and predict a good harvest for the year.
It usually witnesses a massive gathering of people from all walks of life and very similar to the Aboakyer festival which is celebrated in the southern coastal region of Ghana between Accra and Cape Coast in the township of winneba.
Madam Veronica Alele donated some assorted drinks and an undisclosed amount of money to the kinsmen of sonyor to support in their celebrations and was in the company of her nephew, Mbonwura Awudu Jimah who is the 1st vice chairman of the New Patriotic party in the Damongo constituency.
