As part of Ghana Community Radio Network's -Sustainable Development Goals (GCRN - SDGs) anchoring a civil society model towards localizing the SDGs project, PADFM in Damongo, Savannah regional capital of Ghana had its community entering on the 24th June, 2022 in Sori no.1 community which was chosen in collaboration with the Reference Group members on 10th June, 2022 in accordance with the work plan.
Ghana Community Radio Network (GCRN) seeks to empower communities across 22 community radio stations in Ghana, that are at the fore front of their own development and must be able to interpret, prioritize and the take action regarding their burning SDGs with the core SDGs objective "Leave No One Behind".
At Sori No.1, the chief and some community elders, youth could not hide their excitement of seeing us in their community with such a great project. Many expressed their excitement as a result of seeing us for the first time because they only hear us on radio.
Mr Dizuaya, the acting chief of sori No.1 promised PADFM team that the community is ever ready to devote themselves towards the development of the community and that the youth will work hard in making sure the project is successful. He noted that availability of land, logistics and human resources that is within their powers will be made available anytime their services are needed.
The assemblyman for the electoral area used the opportunity to thank and welcome us into the community, stating that sori No.1 is a very productive community that is best known with farming. He promised of full collaboration in other to see the light of the project.
Sor no.1 is a farming community found in the southeastern part of Damongo, of the West Gonja municipality in the Savannah Region of Ghana.
However, data reveals that West Gonja lies approximately on longitudes of 105’ and 20 58’ west and latitude 8032’ and 1002’north. Sori no.1 shares boundaries with Sor no. 2 to the south, Kpiri to the north, and to the east the Nyankamba Escarpment and Frafra no. 2 to the west. The settlement pattern of the community is predominantly dispersed.
GCRN objectives of the project is to Mobilize and engage our partners’ direct target groups (youth) by enabling them to create and take ownership of localizing the SDGs through grassroots activities, Facilitate the building of synergies, good practices and success stories about localizing the SDGs through a collaborative platform, Lobby and advocate for more supportive policy frameworks that will ensure longer term entrenchment of the various SDGs targets at grassroot levels.
However we will be having our CYTTs on Friday 8th July 2022 in the evening, it was agreed with the chief and the assemblyman.
